In the presidential election of 1824, Andrew Jackson received a plurality, but not a majority, of electoral votes cast. The election was thrown to the House, and John Quincy Adams was elected president. A deep rivalry resulted between Andrew Jackson and House Speaker Henry Clay, who had also been a candidate in the election.

(1)If, by reason of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is neither a President nor Vice President to discharge the powers and duties of the office of President, then the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall, upon his resignation as Speaker and as Representative in Congress, act as President.
(2)The same rule shall apply in the case of the death, resignation, removal from office, or inability of an individual acting as President under this subsection.

And the screams will rise up that the fact that this does not match poll predictions proves he stole the election.|
After the first ballot, the Electoral College delegates can vote as they choose in subsequent ballots, as I recall. I don’t think the vote has gone to Congress to resolve since the Constitution was passed. Meaning this is yet another Hail Mary idea to get around the will of the populace that won’t be needed — in 2016 they were talking about EC delegates voting their conscience instead of their commitment to Trump, about the Supreme Court getting involved, and so forth.
What are you feeding, Skidmark? I seem to recall that a quarter of gun-owning households recently gained that status, and now they all need guns and bullets...
|20200809 16:34||Skidmark||Went into town Saturday for some feed.|
First time in about 3 weeks. Scary.
The gun dept was out of pistols, ARs and big bore rifles. The clerk was telling a guy they couldn't guarantee a 3 week delivery.
Ammo shelves were mostly empty. Birdshot and .22 was left. Limit 1 brick/10 boxes of .22 per customer.
I suppose some are warming up for deer season.
|20200809 13:42||Skidmark||What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 electoral votes?|
If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the Presidential election leaves the Electoral College process and moves to Congress.
The House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each State delegation has one vote and it is up to the individual States to determine how to vote. (Since the District of Columbia is not a State, it has no State delegation in the House and cannot vote). A candidate must receive at least 26 votes (a majority of the States) to be elected.
The Senate elects the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most electoral votes. Each Senator casts one vote for Vice President. (Since the District of Columbia is has no Senators and is not represented in the vote). A candidate must receive at least 51 votes (a majority of Senators) to be elected.
If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.
|20200809 10:59||49 Pan||So there is some posts going around social media that states if there is not clear winner for the presidential elections by Jan 20th, the speaker of the house takes over the presidency. |
IS that true? does anyone know the truth here?
If so, it explains the hundreds of laws suits pending for after this election.

During one flight there was a storm and he crashed. He lost his left arm. While in the hospital he contracted a rare disease that turned his skin purple. Years later he became an Archbishop and was in line to become Pope. He wasn't elected. People weren't ready for a one eyed one armed purple papal leader.|

I nabbed your gummibear link and PDF'd it. I've seen stuff disappear, too, like James M. Todaro, MD, and Gregory J. Rigano, Esq.'s "An Effective Treatment for Coronavirus (COVID-19)," which was hosted on Google Docs since March 13, 2020, but was recently removed by Google.
Not sure I buy all the postulates of Yoichi Shimatsu's "Wuhan nCoV Proves Useful For A Malthusian Cull Of Aging Societies - Part 6," Rense (2-12-2020) https://rense.com/general96/wuhan-ncov-proves-useful-for-a-malthusian-cull-of-aging-societies-part6.php, but -- given all that's going on -- it sure seems all too plausible.

|20200727 21:31||Cingold||No worries, Frank G.|
It was a bit outside of my usual ramblings, but (for the some 10-20% of the population that this thing is problematic for) the virus is devastating -- about half of those are going to die without an effective treatment, and almost the same number will be incapacitated for months. The other 80-90% of the population will think there's way too much alarm over this novel flu-like virus; always a great way to sow division. Since I'm a bit paranoid, I wonder if Unrestricted Warfare might be involved -- but I digress . . .
As long as the next pandemic (an October surprise?) is an enveloped virus, the same kind of treatment (e.g., Hesperidin, Bromhexine, Ivermectin) would be useful, but not if the new virus doesn't have the same kind of lipid membrane envelope. I guess it is a wait and see and react quickly scenario, and hopefully I'm just paranoid that something badder will happen this fall.

Not meaning to get out of my lane (and knowing Trailing Wife is in much better stead in this arena — /hat tip/), but feel compelled to share that one response to COVID-19 is a low cost, very safe, widely available, solution:
Block host cell reception & strip off the virus’s protective coating (without cytotoxcity at even 10x regular dosing). See https://t.co/scBAXDisd2. Oh, and I’d say it can’t hurt to wash it all down with some extra zinc with tonic water (with real quinine). BTW, high amounts of Hesperidin are in orange peels, but you’d have to be some place like NZ to get Bromhexine. Clinical trials on Ivermectin are coming out positive at even standard dosing.
Hope this helps somebody.

[Re #4 "To lose a hull is total BS."
No it's possible for an otherwise intact hull to be a total loss. Keep in mind it's a warship and as such the hull has to use special grades of steel in order to withstand torpedos and missiles. A massive fire will weaken the steel to the point where (almost) a BB gun and shoot a pellet thru the hull, in which case, it's unsuitable to be a warship and thus be declared a total loss.
So not BS after all.]
